Loving What Matters - Rachel's Plan Bee

This last week was one filled with mixed emotions for so many of us.

The week of Valentine's Day in the U.S. is typically spent talking about love 24/7. It's a time when we get to formally proclaim that love still exists and wins despite all that is happening around us. And though that was still the case, we were reminded again how important it is to love what matters every single day.

Self-care is on my mind today.

And more specifically, the importance of self-care as it relates to the caregivers in our lives. You've seen them, you are one and some of them go unseen.
  • a mom rushing to get her kids off to school while checking on her neighbor's wife with dementia and making sure the dog is fed and the doors are locked

  • a home health care worker that stays a little longer to help an elderly client write a birthday card for her granddaughter and then drops it in the mail on her way to her next client so that it arrives in time for the special day

  • a woman who sits anxiously with her furry family member for days as the vet tries to save the animal's life

  • a teacher that protects his students from things that a child should never go thru and pays the ultimate price

We are all caregivers of our lives and the lives of our loved ones. You are there to help even when no one is watching.

This one thing I know for sure:

When we take better care of ourselves, we are better able to care for others.

If you (or someone you love) are struggling to keep up and are needing a little extra something to keep moving forward, I hope that you will take time out for self-care this weekend. Take a long walk, bake some cookies, get your nails done or enjoy a glass of wine with friends -- you deserve it.

Your loved ones and those you care for may not always have the opportunity to let you know, but you are fiercely loved and appreciated for all that you do.

Thank you for everything. Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
